Must-Try DIY Masks for Common Skin Problems
You should take care of your skin no matter your age. In a country where extreme heat and thunderstorms are common, you’re prone to experience skin problems ranging from acne to flaky patches.
Instead of relying on expensive skincare products, why not try concocting your own masks to slather on during the weekend? Treat yourself to at-home facials using ingredients you can find in your cupboard.
Oatmeal
A flushed complexion can sometimes be cute, but what if it becomes too red that you start worrying about it?
Facial redness can be the result of many conditions. But most of the time, it could be rosacea and sun damage.
If you forgot to use sunscreen, soothe the redness by mashing ripe banana and mixing it with oatmeal. Known for their soothing powers, oats can help relieve inflamed skin, leaving your skin cool.
This could also work if you’re also struggling with acne. Mix oatmeal and honey, apply on your face, and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. After that, rinse the mask off and pat your face dry.
Honey and Cinnamon
Warm up some honey, mix a wedge of lemon, and add a teaspoon of cinnamon for a relieving mask. The combination of these ingredients will reduce inflammation, absorb excess oil, and exfoliate your skin.
Brown Sugar
Instead of buying a tube of brown sugar scrub, why not make a tub for yourself? Mix 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil (or VCO) to form a scrub that you can use to rid your face of dead skin cells. This will leave you with smoother, healthier skin.
Cucumber and Yogurt
Flaky skin looks unattractive and it gives you an urge to pick the dead skin cells off your face, which can result in a raw patch of skin. Soothe this by making cucumber puree and mixing a tablespoon of plain yogurt. Apply on your face and let the mixture sit for 20 to 25 minutes, and then wash it off.
